The Healthier Together Airdrie (HTA) coalition was established in 2023 as a council-endorsed initiative aimed at improving the health and well-being of the Airdrie community. It brings together the City of Airdrie, Primary Care Alberta (previously Alberta Health Services), community organizations, and local residents under a shared commitment to healthier living.
HTA is based on the Alberta-wide Healthier Together model, developed by AHS, and is rooted in evidence-based practice. It follows the principles of Asset-Based Community Development (ABCD) and Collective Impact, focusing on collaboration, community strengths, and equity. By aligning diverse stakeholders from various sectors and settings around a common vision, HTA works to improve population health and reduce health inequities through locally driven, sustainable solutions.
Fostering an inclusive, connected and healthy Airdrie where everyone feels they belong.
Healthier Together Airdrie leverages local resources and collaboration to create opportunities for all residents to thrive in their community, for life.
Social Connection: Strengthen the sense of community by promoting active participation in free local activities and creating inclusive physical spaces that foster connection.
Recreation/Physical Activity: Develop accessible and affordable recreation opportunities in the community to encourage physical activity and active living.
Together, these key action areas inform and shape the work we do, providing a clear and strategic framework to guide our efforts. They help us stay focused on what truly matters, ensuring that our initiatives align with our goal of supporting a healthier, more connected community.
The first action area emphasizes the importance of fostering social connections and building a strong sense of community. We recognize that strong relationships and a feeling of belonging are essential for mental and emotional health, and they can also enhance overall quality of life. By working to strengthen social ties, we aim to create environments where people feel supported, valued, and connected.
The second action area focuses on expanding access to opportunities that promote physical activity - an essential component of overall health and wellness. We understand that access to affordable recreational activities can be a barrier for many, and by addressing this challenge, we aim to ensure that everyone has the opportunity to participate in recreational activities that support an active and healthy lifestyle.
